The Aim of KHWA

Our association will perform the service to elimination for Hansen's disease through tasks of inves-tigation and research, education, public enlightenment  and  treatment of disease  and  internatio-nal  exchange  in  accordance  with national policy.   (the articles of association 3rd statement)

Main Activities

  • Treatment and prevention of Hansen's disease
  • Training and education about Hansen's disease
  • Research and survey about Hansen's disease
  • Rehabilitation medically and socially for persons affected Hansen's disease.
  • Countermeasure for living care of Hansen's disease patients.
  • International cooperation and exchange of knowledge  about Hansen's disease (the articles of as-sociation 4th statement)

History

1948. 09. 03 Established Korean Leprosy Prevention Association
1956. 10. 06 Change the name as Korean Leprosy Association
1975. 07. 10 Taking over the leprosy mobile teams.　
1976. 06. 22 Established Korean Leprosy Institute.
1977. 11. 09 Taking over the national registration system of leprosy
1982. 04. 01 United Korean Leprosy Institute into Korean Leprosy Association
1984. 01. 20 Change the name as Korean Leprosy Control Association
2000. 07. 27 Change the name as Korean Hansen Welfare Association
