Prevention of Disability(POD)

Because   Hansen's  disease  is  a  major  cause  of  disability  by   infection,   we  have  been   carrying  out   the  intervention  to prevent disability.  The routine  use  of  appropriate prosthesis  is  one  of  the  most   important   POD  interventions  in  Hansen's disease, as loss of sensation in the hand, and the foot.  Especially anyone with Grade 1  disability should be helped to obtain such prosthesis through an organized programme. For prevention and non-aggravation  of  disability,   we  have  been carrying out the supply of various  prosthesis for persons affected Hansen's disea-se.

Rehabilitation Service

Since 1989, we have been carrying out reconstructive surgery for Hansen's disease patients who cannot obtain surgery at privately-run hospital. The demand is increasing by year. KHWA is concentrating it's efforts on reconstructive surgery and reinforcing the activities of orthopedics, plastic surgery, ophthalmology sections. To improve reconstruction surgery and social rehabilitation, we are confident that it will accelerate the patient's return to the community.
